Haskell, Wyoming has a rich and vibrant history, dating back to the Old West. But with the opening of Paradise Space Flight, an aeronautics company and brain-child of Howard Franklin Haskell IV, the entire town is looking to the future. All except cowgirl, Casey Flint. Daughter of one of the original Paradise Ranch families, Casey is reeling from all of the change in her hometown. Even more so when project manager Scott Martin moves into town and turns her world upside down.
Scott is more than ready to embrace the quieter pace of life that Haskell represents while helping a new and exciting company to launch…in more ways than one. His life gets even better when he meets and falls hard for local girl, Casey. But Casey proves to be more of a challenge than he anticipated when she seeks to block his efforts to buy land from her father. Scott and Casey rub each other the wrong way, but the sparks they create are irresistible.
But just as the two rivals are tempted to give in to attraction, the infamous Bonneville family causes trouble for both Scott and Casey’s family. When they threaten to buy out Casey’s family’s ranch, everyone’s futures are in jeopardy. Hearts are on the line as the cowgirl and the engineer must work together to preserve the past and protect the future.

A new series by Merry Farmer that follows the town of Haskell in modern-day times. I love how the descendants of those from Haskell in her Brides of Paradise Ranch series are involved in the town and still fighting those Bonneville's! This is an emotional book as Casey deals with the loss of her mom, the changing of her steady life from what she knows, and fighting her attraction to Scott. Overall, this was an enjoyable read that made me laugh and cry.The steam level on this book is a warning level of hot. The author issues this warning for a reason - there are several spicy scenes in the book. If you want the bedroom door closed, this book is not for you.

Opposites Attract Nerds of Paradise Book 1 edition by Merry Farmer Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
Scott was a barely researched piece of drivel. He's building a green house. A green house is more than solar panels, a wind turbine, a septic tank and well. There is passive heating and cooling that can be explained, grey water recycling, recycled insulation and building materials, insulated glass windows, green roofs, and all kinds of other things that can and should be part of a green house built by an aerospace engineer. And the fact that the aerospace aspect of the research is saved for another book was not lost on me. I have issues with her female lead as well.
Her grief felt very real to me, but the love story not so much. The timetable didn't help either. They knew each other six weeks, a few months at the max. So she has to run an emotional gauntlet in weeks, that probably takes years, so that it sounds like and feels like a mental breakdown. I'm surprised that she didn't get professional help because she went through denial, anger, guilt, sadness, and acceptance at breakneck speed. It read like watching a crazy person. I liked the setting, secondary characters, and beginning story arc/subplot but not enough to make me like this book.
I can't get past chapter 4 due to the main characters selfish and irrational behavior. Trying to sabotage a sale that ensures her family ranch will continue to operate successfully mashes her an unlikable character. For someone who is supposed to be in her early thirties, she acts more like a spoiled 14yo. If I can't relate to a character, I can't read the book. I gave it 2 stars bc the male lead seems more likable, but the fact that he's still attracted to the lead female even when she's acting like a child is hard to swallow...
I really wish I had "looked inside" and read the sample. I think I would have heeded the advice of the low star reviews and passed on this one. I knew by the first few pages this one wasn't going to do it for me. The heroine seems like a teen and I hate it when the heroine doesn't want to give up something that is going down the tubes if something drastic isn't done. They seem to be so "in charge" yet they are not able to even see the big picture. This one just didn't do it for me. I wouldn't want to discourage anyone else from reading the story, it just wasn't for me.
I was not paid for this review. I am not an author nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 8/21/17
I was looking forward to reading about a sexy nerd. I like smart guys and it's refreshing to read about someone who isn't an athlete, billionaire, or bad boy etc. I enjoyed the writing and the overall story was ok. I just couldn't get on board with Casey. I found her to be extremely irritating, immature and selfish. I just didn't care of her childish personality and going out of her way to make it difficult for Scott and running around the town trying to get sympathy points from friends without even thinking about her family and their financial situation. All she did was whine, imagine a 5 year old kicking and screaming because they didn't get their way. Another unfortunate character is the male lead...I didn't think Scott was nerdy enough...
If you like a whiney, spoiled, ridicules female this is your story. Casey acts like a teenager who can't get her way. Just found this character annoying to read.
Casey, the female lead, couldn't get out of her own way - she was too busy whining. She couldn't even grasp the main problem that her ranch would fail without the money from the sale of a few acres. She'd rather sink the whole ranch than let go of a small piece. And honestly, the fact that she couldn't understand her problem better at her age was just ridiculous. Another point was made about green houses. How if you allow one then anyone can throw up a shack and you lose all control. Except that Scott had to get permission to build his house. He had to show plans, describe systems and be approved. Anyone who wanted to build a house would have to do that so someone throwing up a shack contradicts a basic premise of the story - you have to have town approval to build. And the law that was being voted on that could go retroactive over the past 5 years? How did that even get on the docket? And the worry that big box stores would move in as heritage property was parceled out? It would have to be approved too so it's unlikely a ranch owner could sell their property and bam - Walmart moves in without anyone having a say in the matter. The conflict was contrived so support what could have been a great story line. More thought should have gone into how create the tension in this book.
This guy doesn't act like a nerd. He's an alpha male with glasses. The heroine is the typical beauty. So they are the same stereotype. The villain is a cardboard cutout. There is no suspense.
