Penelope Price is a young woman who is utterly scarred and broken. She has been Cut.

Residing with her best friend Rosalie since the sudden demise of her long term relationship, she finds herself severed from the world she once lived for. After months of Rosie suffering through failed attempts of trying to drag Penny back into some form of reality, finally, it happens.

A nightclub in Sydney leads to a strange encounter with Jay, a musician who at first meeting seems dangerous, but for unknown reasons there is an unconscious draw. When her inner turmoil dramatically ruins the night, it appears she may be worse off than where she started.

Will her wound ever heal?

The sudden return of her ex, Evan, who is persistent to fill in the reasons for their demise, exposes the shocking truth. Ultimately sending her into the lowest point of her existence.

Does she find her definitive end in the dramatic final scene of her story?

Has she been Cut?

Cut edition by Kathleen Mareé Literature Fiction eBooks

Penelope is a mess. She has been seriously depressed for the past three months, following a break-up with her long term boyfriend, Evan. She has basically been living the life of a hermit, barely communicating with the outside world. The only person she sees, is her best friend, Rosie. She is the one who took her in when her world fell apart.
One night, she actually manages to convince her to come out with her, and that is when she meets Jay Ryker. He is intense and moody, and takes an interest in Penelope, something that she can't quite understand.
After one of their encounters, she is left feeling confused and frustrated. That is when she discovers the truth behind her break-up with Evan and once again her world crashes down around her.

So, I have to say that at first I found it a little hard to get into as I didn't really 'get' Penelope, as she was pretty hopeless, but I guess everyone deals with break-ups in their own way. Once Jay was introduced to the story, I found it a lot more compelling to read. His character is a mystery, I'm still trying to figure him out.
And the ending! Well, that just left me desperate to get the next book in the series!

Cut edition by Kathleen Mareé Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Was given an ARC for an honest review.
I have read a few books that take place in Australia and all of them were decent. I have grown to understand some of the lingo and jargon that the author's use. So if you are from the states and are looking for a true Aussie dialogue such as 'kerb' instead of 'curb' and 'arse' instead of 'ass' - this is your book.

The writing wasn't bad at all. It was pretty polished, with few over all errors. The word choice was clean. My only negative was the constant elaboration with detail. I like using my imagination for somethings - i.e. the way a room may look; what type of blonde or brown colored hair they may have; the play-by-play of a morning routine. Some of these things are not in need of extreme detail. I believe readers enjoy thinking what they may about certain places or situations.

After being betrayed by her longtime boyfriend Evan, Penelope moves in with her best friend Rosie as she struggles with heartbreak and depression. Penelope is losing in the fight to put the pieces of her life back together. When Rosie drags her out for a night on the town, she meets the mysterious and sexy rocker, Jay Ryker. This brooding bad boy is instantly attracted to Penny and she can't find the will to resist his charm.

After spending a few days with Jay, Penny grows more and more confused about her growing feelings for Jay and her unresolved feelings for Evan. A trip to visit Jay in L.A. leaves Penny more confused than ever. Then Evan resurfaces, revealing a shocking truth, and Penny finds herself once again cut from the striking wounds of betrayal.

The title of this book takes on so many meanings. Penny is cut from Evan's betrayal. cut off from her friends after the demise of their relationship and cut once again by Jay's behavior. And "cut" takes an entirely new meaning as climactic ending unfolds.

I liked this story but at times, I felt that the plot was confusing. I spent most of the time waiting for Jay to be revealed as a vampire. What was with all of the references to his cold breath and his touch?? There were also quite a few typos and grammatical errors that were a bit distracting. But with the plot twists in the book that ending...I am definitely looking forward to the next book where hopefully a lot of my questions about the plot and the dramatic ending will be answered!
Penelope Price had her world shattered at the front door. Utterly broken, she goes into basically a "living coma" for several months. Thankfully her best friend/roommate Rosalie keeps her from completely succumbing to her grief. When she finally decides to leave the house and join the land of the living, she and Rosie hit a trendy nightclub in Sydney.
Here Penny encounters Jay, the soulful musician playing the VIP room she and her friends are occupying. He is mysterious and cold, but there is something about him that draws Penny in - and he feels the same way. Penny is certainly NOT ready for any sort of relationship but Jay is quietly relentless and she is unable to say no.
Penny and Jay are working their way, albeit very timidly, into getting to know each other when the unthinkable happens. Evan-the-ex shows up, claiming to want to come clean and win Penny back. Can she forgive Evan? What about Jay?
ARRRGGGHHHH. This book had me on absolute pins and needles most of the time, but in a good way. It sucked me in from the first few pages and kept me entrenched. A very, VERY good story; i can hardly believe this is Kathleen Maree's first work.

What I liked

ALL the details. The author was extremely descriptive about the main characters, both their physical attributes and their emotive states. I appreciate that in a book. I felt very connected to Penny, Jay and Rosie throughout the story and even got a good feel for the secondary characters.

The twists. Without giving up spoilers, there were a couple of things that absolutely threw me for a loop. I read a lot and consider myself somewhat hard to surprise, but GOOD GRIEF - at several points I was left mouth gaping in utter shock.

The flow. Im not sure how to say this any other way than this book was really beautifully written. It was very smooth and almost.. artistic?

What would I change? NOTHING. Honestly, its a 5 star book all the way around for me. My reading tastes generally fall into romance/erotica and this book was a bit different from what I normally choose for myself. That being said, I couldnt have enjoyed it more. It was not just a story that I could pick up, read a few chapters and come back for more later. It was very engrossing and really kept me glued to the kindle for HOURS.

Kathleen Maree has, in my opinion, enormous talent as an author. I feel very privileged that she asked me to read/review this book for her and I am definitely looking forward to more of her works.

I give CUT 5*****wickedgoodstars and will be happily recommending it!- asw
I was really sad that there was no solution to Penelope's dilemma. I really enjoyed reading about Penelope and Jay, but was upset that they didn't get together. I guess I like stories with a beginning and an ending.
